Get Back On Track

So David said to Achish, “But what have I done? And to this day what have you found in your servant as long as I have been with you, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”
1 Samuel 29:8

The Philistines had arrayed themselves in battle against Israel. David was in the enemies’ camp on the opposing side. He did not understand why King Achish would not allow him to fight in the battle against Israel. He asked the king, “What have I done?” David argued about the decision. He was a good fighter and would have been able to kill many men, but some of the Philistine commanders did not trust him.

Notice, David still wanted to go and fight! While he remained in the enemies’ camp alongside the Philistines, he hoped to continue to be seen as faithful. David did not recognize that he was acting irrational. David was self-deceived as he not walking closely with God. He was out of God’s perfect will.  At this low point in his life, David never realized how far he had fallen away from the path God had for him––sad.

Remember, when David walked with God, he had the conviction to not come against the Lord’s anointed. He feared the Lord and would not lift a hand against Saul. David, for some time, lived in the fear of man. God used the Philistine commanders to get David back on track. He would not be allowed to go into the battle with them. God actually used the Philistines to dissuade him from going in the wrong direction; from fighting his own people and Saul in battle.

In your walk with God, fear can cause you to easily get off track. There are times when you can lose your discernment, become deceived, and lack the Lord’s wisdom. Examine your life because you may not realize just how much fear is influencing your life. Know that God is faithful. He will help you return to the path He has for your life. Does your life need to get back on track? Look up and let God speak to you.

No Christian is ever going in the right direction when he has his back to God.
