God Given Victory

And when he had brought him down, there they were, spread out over all the land, eating and drinking and dancing, because of all the great spoil which they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from the land of Judah. Then David attacked them from twilight until the evening of the next day. Not a man of them escaped, except four hundred young men who rode on camels and fled.
1 Samuel 30:16-17

The Amalekites were found to be partying, eating and drinking. They were greatly celebrating over all the great spoils they had taken for the land of the Philistines and the land of Judah. They had no idea that the tables would be turned on them––their joy and dancing would be turned to sorrow. The Amalekites would now suffer defeat, and many of them would be killed.

When David attacked them; he waged war from twilight until the evening of the next day. Only four hundred young men escaped on camels. David had gained the victory. David experienced what it was like to have God working on His side; he became aware of God’s loving-kindness. Imagine what David must have felt like. He knew it was God who had given him the victory in his battle against the Philistines.

In our lives we can suffer defeat or victory. Defeat can come when we are not walking in obedience to God and His Word. Victory happens as we walk in obedience to God and His Word.

Are you walking in defeat or victory? If defeat, examine your life before the Lord and ask Him to forgive you of any unconfessed sin. Begin to walk a life pleasing to Him. Then He will give you the victory in your life’s battles.

The roaring thunder of the law and the fear of the terror of judgment are both used to bring us to Christ, but the final victory culminating in our salvation is won through God’s loving–kindness.
~C.H. Spurgeon~
