The Sure Promises of God
So David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away, and David rescued his two wives. And nothing of theirs was lacking, either small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything which they had taken from them; David recovered all. Then David took all the flocks and herds they had driven before those other livestock, and said, “This is David’s spoil.”
David won the victory against the Amalekites and rescued all the captives. God’s promise to David was sure––it came to pass––he recovered all (1 Samuel 30:8). David’s four hundred men were not killed in battle, nor were any of the women or children harmed.
Imagine, the Amalekites could have raped the women; and they could have killed the children. Everyone was rescued from the Amalekites. They returned safe; nothing happened to them. God protected them. He was working behind the scenes to preserve their wives, children, and even the spoils. David and his men did not lose anyone or anything! God showed His great faithfulness to David and he knew the Lord fulfilled His promise to him. As David walked in God’s perfect will, He gave him the victory!
David also took away the accumulated spoils from the Amalekites for himself, so that he came away with more than what he had to begin with.
I believe God blessed David to help him come back into a right relationship with him. David had run to the Philistine camp in fear of his life because King Saul had sought to kill him. Now he needed to remain on the path God had for Him. David needed to return to his first love––God.
Think of all the difficult situations you are facing in life. God is able to show to you His great faithfulness. He will keep His promises to you. God will draw you to Himself––to get you back to a place where He is your first love.
It is the distinguishing mark of God’s people that they know the love of Christ.
