Team Work in Battle

Now David came to the two hundred men who had been so weary that they could not follow David, whom they also had made to stay at the Brook Besor. So they went out to meet David and to meet the people who were with him. And when David came near the people, he greeted them. Then all the wicked and worthlessmen of those who went with David answered and said, “Because they did not go with us, we will not give them any of the spoil that we have recovered, except for every man’s wife and children, that they may lead them away and depart.”
1 Samuel 30:21-22

David was returning to the Brook of Besor where two hundred of his men remained resting. They were weary and could not continue into battle against the Amalekites. As David came closer they went out to meet him.

David decided to share the spoils with the two hundred men, but his decision caused a big argument among all the wicked and worthless men who had gone with David to battle against the Amalekites. They raised their argument to David as if to say, “These men did not go to war with us, why then should they have any of the spoils?” These tough men of war refused to give any spoils to them. In fact, they would have had them leave with their families.

David would correct his men because the spoils had been given to them by the Lord. They needed to understand they were all one team. The spoils won in the victory against the Amalekites needed to be shared among them all. David would set a good standard of teamwork.

Are you a good team player?

The truth is that teamwork is at the heart of great achievement.
