“I look up to the mountains— does my help come from there?” (Psalm 121:1 NLT)

TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT

Some people find peace by visiting the beach. Other people look for solace by spending time on the lake. I find renewal when I go up into the mountains. I love to spend time in the snow-capped peaks while breathing in the crisp, fresh air.

I picture David writing this Psalm as he gazes upon the jagged ridges surrounding him. Like me, he seems to find peace in this setting. The majesty and strength of the mountains remind us of God’s mighty power. The unchanging peaks recap for us that our God is also never changing.

From David’s day until the present, many people gazed up at the mountains and pondered the same question: “Where does my help come from today?” We find the answer in the next verse in Psalm 121:2: “My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth” (ESV).

Our support comes from the Lord, the One who made the mountains. Next time you see a cliff, remember that our Lord will always help you.

PRAY

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being the mountain we can run to in times of trouble. Thank You for nature which surrounds us to remind us of You. Help us to look to you when we face trials and tribulations. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.

REFLECT

Where does your help come from when you face difficulties?

SHARE

The mountains reflect the mighty power of our God.
