Surrender
 By Debbie Lamm

He must increase, but I must decrease. John 3:30 ESV

He sat down at the piano and began to sing – softly at first, then bolder. The fingers that had taught themselves to play struck loosely and seemed to enjoy the feel of the keys. I stood back and watched, aware that in that moment, God was working. A young man was realizing that He needed God. I have never seen anything more beautiful.

My son taught himself to play the piano. I love to hear him sing. It wasn’t always easy for him to love music so much. He struggled to find a balance between life and love. We are sometimes forced to watch as those we love fall, finding the bottom to be a deep hole of nothing. As difficult as that is, because that is where my heart breaks, there is nothing more beautiful.

When we come to the end of ourselves, we surrender ourselves to the will of the Father. There is nothing I would rather see than a heart surrendering to the Father. Nothing. When we surrender completely, we expect to see things change, right? So why do we continue to struggle?

When no change occurs, we question: Why? I’ve prayed, I’ve listened, why have You not moved? Honestly, I don’t have the answer. The Lord moves in His time, at His will, not ours. Sometimes He chooses to make us wait. I wish I knew why.

Worship sets the stage for His glory to be seen. As we worship Him in purity and in truth, singing hallelujah, the worship of our hearts frees the atmosphere to see His glory! Signs, wonders, miracles, and broken hearts, will be healed. He will speak life to dead bones and they will rise! So, I wait…and I worship…”Cantamos aleluya…te adoramos Senor…”

He will move in His time, in whom He chooses.

Are you wrestling with discouragement because your circumstances have not changed? Are you expecting to see your church miraculously changed?

Lord, I surrender. All my questions, my discouragement, my fears – I lay them at Your feet. Help me to accept that You are with me here, in this place, in these circumstances. I choose to worship You, my God, my Lord, my King … In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
