Why Did God Choose Weak, Foolish Things? - Love Worth Finding - August 27

Why Did God Choose Weak, Foolish Things?

AUGUST 27

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. 1 Corinthians 1:27-29

What is Paul saying here? For His purposes, God has selected the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, revealing their ignorance. He chose the weak things to shame the things which are strong, revealing their frailty, and the insignificant things of the world, those despised and treated with contempt, that He might reduce to nothing the things that are, so no one can boast in His presence.

What wisdom was there in dying on a cross? The Greeks couldn’t understand it, and yet that is the wisdom of God. God is so wise that the person with the highest IQ cannot figure Him out. If you could come to God with your intellect, then God wouldn’t be fair, because smart people would have a head start, and the rest of us would be left standing in the shadows. Your spirituality would be based upon your intellect.

Someone once said, “The Bible is like a pool. Shallow enough that a little child can come and get a drink of water without fear of drowning, yet so deep scholars can swim in it and never touch bottom.”

I’m so glad God has “hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes” (Matthew 11:25). God has made salvation through faith in Christ Jesus so simple, even a little child can understand it.

It’s not that God is so high that few can figure Him out; it is that God has placed Himself at such a level that few of us will get down low enough to see God revealing Himself to us.
