Today's Scripture
"He [the devil] was a killer from the very start. He couldn't stand the truth because there wasn't a shred of truth in him. When the Liar speaks, he makes it up out of his lying nature and fills the world with lies." John 8:44 MSG

Thoughts for Today
This week we will be exploring the lies of pornography. You may be struggling with pornography or perhaps know someone who is. Or you might want to help people avoid falling into this deadly trap.

Pornography is a huge moneymaking operation with annual revenues of some $57 billion worldwide. It ensnares people of all ages and from all walks of life. Although men are the primary target of the industry, more and more women are seduced by chat rooms or romance novels.

Since the goal of the pornography sellers is to get people to spend their money and keep coming back for more, we need to realize that the product is designed to be addictive. It is enslaving because it is built on a massive web of lies yet does not satisfy. What are the lies? That viewing pornography is a victimless crime … that women are objects for men to enjoy … that deviations are normal and common … and on and on.

In today's scripture, Jesus said that the devil is the father of lies. And Satan continues to fill the world with the lies of pornography. The lies lure the customers in, and the lack of ultimate satisfaction leads them ever deeper into the trap, seeking more and spending more.

Consider this …
If you have fallen under the seduction of pornography—or have just begun exploring it—it is important for you to recognize the lies that are ensnaring you. The lies can warp your thinking about other people, making them into sexual objects for your pleasure. They can also create desires in you for immoral acts.

Say no to the lies.

Prayer
Lord, help me see pornography for what it is—sin built on lies of Satan. Help me to say no to the lies. Help ________(fill in the name) say no to the lies. In Jesus' name . . .

These thoughts were drawn from … Crossroads: Choosing the Road to Sexual Purity by David E. Longacre.

  • Describes the sexual addiction process
  • Shows how the sin of proximity often precedes sexual sins
  • Shows the way out of sexual addiction
  • Presents biblical insights to help a person break free and stay free
  • Gives practical actions for renewing the mind
  • Shows how recognizing lies can help reject them for the truth of God's Word
  • Serves as a powerful evangelistic tool by providing a way to minister to people's felt needs and then pointing them to Christ
