Submission and Love in Marriage

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. .... Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her....
Ephesians 5:22, 25

Married couples need to understand the biblical role that a husband and wife play in their marriage. The way their roles must be fulfilled is important for them to know. God loves women. They are not inferior to men. It is amazing to see how God used women in both the New and Old Testaments. Women played an important role in the Bible. Many women served the Lord; they took care of Him:

Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities—Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance (Luke 8:1-3).

It was a woman, Mary Magdalene, and several others who were first at Jesus’ tomb when He resurrected from the dead: Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb (John 20:1; Mark 16:1). Certain women were very faithful to Jesus all through His life––to the very end. Where were the men? They were fearful and in hiding––dejected.

The Bible speaks highly of women, but many cultures have degraded women––not God, Jesus or Paul. In fact, The Women’s Liberation Movement, a political group of women including feminists, stood up for women’s rights. But they have shared views with women that have caused them to become deceived about their proper role in the family. God loves mothers and fathers. He desires a godly home where children can be nurtured in the ways of the Lord.

It was to a virgin woman that the birth of the Son of God was announced. It was to a fallen woman that his resurrection was announced.
