Husband’s Help or Hindrance?
And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”
Genesis 18:20
The Bible describes the wife as a help meet. The word help meet means “a female helper, aid, or succor.” God made the woman to assist and support her husband. She stands by him and watches out for him.
The wife is described as a crown to her husband: An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones (Proverbs 12:4). A wife is not to be a crown of thorns! A wife is described as a good thing: He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the LORD (Proverbs 18:22).
When the Lord blesses a man with a wife, he is to honor her as the weaker vessel (1 Peter 3:7). Also, Proverbs 5:18 advises that a husband is to remain with the wife of his youth. He is to rejoice and be delighted with her love: Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth. As a loving deer and a graceful doe, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; and always be enraptured with her love.
During the time of Jesus, some Jewish men divorced and forsook their wives for any little thing––too much salt in the food. These men became dissatisfied with their wives as they became a little out of shape, and not so beautiful. They wanted a younger, more beautiful wife. The Lord witnessed their mistreatment:
“...the LORD has been witness between you and the wife of your youth, with whom you have dealt treacherously; yet she is your companion and your wife by covenant ... Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth. “For the LORD God of Israel says that He hates divorce, for it covers one’s garment with violence,” Says the LORD of hosts. “Therefore take heed to your spirit, that you do not deal treacherously” (Malachi 2:14-16).

It should be the husband’s pleasure to please his wife, and the wife’s care to care for her husband.
