Come, Lord Jesus
Pastor Mike Novotny
Every few days, my family uses a common prayer before eating dinner. It starts, “Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest . . .” I like that line. I try to envision Jesus answering that prayer, walking into the room, and joining us with his life-giving, happiness-increasing presence. The thought of him makes me happier than the food at the table or the people sitting around it.
But that prayer is not reserved for just the evening meal. It’s the deepest and most constant cry of every Christian heart. The Bible’s second to last verse says, “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20). Because when Jesus comes in glory on the Last Day, everything bad and broken will have to leave. Everything we regret and fear will be dead and gone. Everything we long for and desire will be ours forever. Can you imagine life like that?
No more sadness, loneliness, or restlessness. No more disabilities, disease, or death. No grief, no fears, no phobias. No addictions, no compulsions, no obsessions. No PTSD, OCD, STD, or ADHD. No triggers, no trauma, no just trying to get by. Only glory. Only a happiness we have never felt. Only a rest that finally lets us sit and breathe and beam with joy. This is our hope. That is our for-sure future. It is going to happen. It sometimes feels like forever away, but soon and very soon we will see Jesus.
Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! Come quickly!
