In Times of Deep Trial––Worship

Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped.
Job 1:20

One after another, messengers came to Job with devastating news. Job’s response to the news was incredible: He stood up, tore his clothes, shaved his head (in this culture this was an act of mourning), fell to the ground, and worshipped God! Job, although in a time of deep trial, kept his integrity. Job said:

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong (Job 1:21-22).

Job did not falsely accuse or misjudge God. He never shook his fist at God in anger. Instead, he humbled himself in the presence of God and worshiped Him. Job did what was right and did not sin with his lips. Later, while still enduring personal suffering, his wife and friends added insult to injury, but Job knew how to put on the whole armor of God.

I have been in times of trial where I was tested. I stood knowing deep within my heart that no matter what happened, God was in charge of my life. Do you know who the greatest example was in my life? Chuck Smith. He really believed what he taught us. I saw him go through many difficult times, but he always remained true in character and in his integrity.

In times of trial, may God help us to learn from Job’s model example. We need to believe that God is in charge of our lives––no matter what happens. God is in command! If you have to go through anything like Job experienced in his life, trust that God will give you His grace and mercy.

Your victory will come with your song. It is a very puzzling thing to the devil to hear saints sing when he sets his foot on them. He cannot make it out: the more he oppresses them, the more they rejoice. Let us resolve to be all the merrier when the enemy dreams that we are utterly routed!
