Revelation 21:4

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

He cares about your tears!

The Bible was written by people under the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit. I love that the Bible keeps things real. It doesn’t sugarcoat them. Unlike Instagram, the Bible doesn’t only present us with the good times.

It talks about the pain that people experience.

It talks about Abraham’s pain of losing Sarah: “And Sarah died at Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham went in to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her” (Genesis 23:2); Moses’ cry over his sister’s leprosy, “And Moses cried to the Lord, ‘O God, please heal her—please’” (Numbers 12:13); Hannah’s pain of not having a baby, “She was deeply distressed and prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly” (1 Sam 1:10); David’s pain caused by losing Absalom, “And the king was deeply moved and went up to the chamber over the gate and wept. And as he went, he said, ‘O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son, my son!’” (2 Sam 18:33); Jesus’ pain at Lazarus’ grave, “Jesus wept” (John 11:35).

It captures Mary’s pain at the tomb of Jesus, “But Mary was standing outside the tomb weeping; and so, as she wept, she stooped and looked into the tomb;” (John 20:11) and Paul’s tears when he writes to the Corinthians “For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears” (2 Corinthians 2:4).

Just as God kept an account of people’s tears in the Bible, he keeps an account of your tears. Psalm 56:8 says “You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle; Are they not in your book?”

Whatever struggle you are going through today, know that God sees you. He sees your pain, he sees your tossing, and he sees every single tear that you cry. And the day will come when God himself will wipe away every one of those tears.

Revelation 7:17 assures us, “For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
