5 Uplifting Birthday Prayers for Your Daughter

Becky Weber

I grew up in a family where both of my siblings were girls. I loved having sisters, but not having a brother left me wanting boys when I was ready to have kids. That prayer was answered with the blessing of my first two boys, and I assumed that I was destined to have all boys. The Lord had a different plan in mind. When I was pregnant with my third, we went in for an ultrasound to confirm that our next boy was on the way. We were surprised to hear them say “girl!” When the shock wore off, we got used to the idea. I couldn’t wait to have a little more estrogen in a house full of testosterone.

My daughter was born on a cold day in November. I was smitten from the start. I couldn’t believe that this precious child was mine to take home. Being a woman myself, and the experiences I had growing up, I knew that I would need serious help and wisdom to raise my daughter in the way that she needed. One of the things that has become so important in raising all of my kids, is learning to pray for them. Any need that I have with parenting, I am learning to bring it to the feet of Jesus. Especially around the time of my kids’ birthdays, it is a good reminder that it is so crucial to lift my children up in prayer. I want my kids to grow to know and love Jesus. Praying for them is an important part of helping them get to that point. I love to come up with birthday prayers for my daughter, especially being a female myself. I believe it will send her off into her next year of life the right way.

Why Is it Important to Lift Up Our Children in Prayer?

I believe that it is more important than ever to be praying for our children. The world has become such a different place since I grew up. Especially for girls right now, it can be challenging knowing how to navigate things like social media, body image, smartphones, peer pressure, friendships, and just growing up in general. My daughter is not even a teenager yet, and I find there are many times I have needed to be on my knees in prayer.

Prayer can also remind us of who is really in control. I can’t tell you how many times I have wanted to be the one who has control over everything in my kids’ lives. I want to control who they are friends with, how they react to situations, how hard they work, their choices, and what they do for the rest of their lives. The reality though is we don’t have much control at all. We do, however, have access to the one who is completely in control. The Lord is completely trustworthy. He is capable of handling every fear and concern that we have with our kids. He loves our kids more than we will ever know. That also makes it easier to prayerfully place our kids in his loving hands.

Praying is one of the best things that you can do for your kids. It impacts everything. Sometimes it is helpful to have an idea or even an outline of what to pray.

Here are five birthday prayers for daughters that you can pray on her birthday, and throughout the year.

A Birthday Prayer for My Daughter to Have a Blessed Day

Father, I thank you for the gift of my daughter. I pray that you help her know how special she is today. Help her get a sense of how much you love her, and that you long to have a relationship with her. Give her refreshment and joy that can only be found in you. I pray she would know you are the source of every good thing. Thank you again for her life, and help her know she is not an accident. You had her in mind from the beginning of time. Amen.

A Prayer for This Next Year of Her Life

Jesus, thank you that our birthdays can be like a fresh start each year. I pray for the upcoming year for my daughter. I pray she would know your hand is on every part of her life. Would she learn to come to you for every single thing that she needs, and remind her that you are her provider. Help her learn to seek you, and make you part of her life. Guide her decisions, and give her wisdom when she needs it. Help her learn to love others who come in her path. May others know you because of her. Amen.

A Prayer for Her Friendships as She Grows Up

Lord, thank you that you created friendships to be a special part of each one of our lives. Would you please guide my daughter as she chooses her friends? Help her have wisdom when choosing who she should be close with. I pray that her friends would be people who bring out the best in her, and she would do the same for them. Help her know who she should reach out to, be friends

with, and who to avoid. I pray that her friendships would be the joy of her life, and there would be no comparison among them. Please provide friends who lift each other up. Help her ultimately to know you are her closest friend and always there for her. Amen.

A Prayer for My Daughter as She Grows Up in Our Current Society

Father, thank you for giving us direction in a world that can sometimes be so confusing. I lift up my daughter to you. I ask you to protect her. Give her a clear sense of things that are of you in this world, and things that are not. Help her choose you and live for you in everything she does. I pray that she would choose to show kindness, even to those she disagrees with. May she always be grounded in you, and never wander far from your loving kindness. Amen.

A Birthday Prayer for My Daughter to Find Her Worth and Meaning in Jesus

Jesus, thank you that we find our complete worth only in you. I pray that you would help my daughter know she will not find it anywhere else. Help her understand the depth of your love and the extent that you went to be with her. Give her clarity to see the areas where she

might run to, to find her worth. Thank you, Jesus, that you never stop pursuing us, and that you are always waiting with open arms. Nothing compares to your love. Help my daughter to always know that. Amen.

Praying for our kids is one of the greatest gifts that we can give them. It can be hard to know what to do in certain situations with our kids, which is why prayer is so important. We are not doing nothing when we pray; instead, we are placing our kids before Jesus, asking that he have his way in their lives. His ways are always higher than ours and better than we can even

imagine. Continue to pray for your kids. Keep lifting them up to the Lord. He is always faithful and always listening.
