Encouragement for Today

Under His Wing

Ramona Davis – Proverbs 31 Speaker

Key Verse:

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1 (NKJV)

Devotion:

Our fourth grade class gathered around Elizabeth as she excitedly shared her photos. Elizabeth and her mom had discovered a mother duck that had chosen to lay her eggs in a busy Target parking lot.

Everyday on their way home from school, they would stop by check on the expectant mom. Finally, the big day came and the little ducklings made their entrance into the world. Each day when Elizabeth and her mom would try to take pictures the mother duck would gather her young under her protective wing. The elusive ducklings were finally caught on film peering out from under their mother’s feathers.

When physical danger strikes, we dial 911 and know we can get the help we need. Where can we turn when spiritual danger is imminent? Dial 911, that is, Psalm 91:1.

In this beautiful Psalm, the Lord God Himself promises to gather and hide us under His protective Wing. He promises to be with us in every situation. Don’t waste another minute thinking you are alone. Turn to the One who cares for you and longs to be your Refuge.

My prayer for today:

Dear Lord, I need You to gather me under Your Wing and hide me. I need to feel You close to me in this time of trouble. Comfort, lead and guide me through this darkness.  In Jesus’ name, Amen

Application steps:

Read Psalm 91 and pray each verse for your situation. Rest in knowing He cares for you and will be your Refuge.

Reflection points:

What is your first response to trouble?

What keeps you from going to God first?

What specific steps can you take that will help you turn to God first when trouble strikes?

Power verses:

He will shield you with his wings. He will shelter you with his feathers. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Psalm 91:4 (NLT)

The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread? Psalm 27:1 (NAS)

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.

Proverbs 18:10 (NKJV)

They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the LORD to care for them.

Psalm 112:7 (NLT)
