All in the Family: Christian Music's Sibling Acts

Wendy Lee Nentwig

There's a legend in the music biz that no one can harmonize better than siblings. And with all the great bands made up of family members these days, there just may be something to that theory.

For instance, have you heard about the recent success of the Jonas Brothers (yes, they're actually brothers) with their top-10 video, "Mandy," on MTV's Total Request Live? Well if you haven't, you're sure to soon as Kevin, Joseph and Nicholas Jonas' debut album, "It's About Time," becomes download-ready in May.

Also favorites of the MTV crowd, Switchfoot's "Meant to Live," "Dare You to Move" and "Stars" have become staples of Christian and mainstream radio playlists alike. But have you ever noticed how two of the band members look strikingly similar, right down to their rock-star locks? That's because front man Jon Foreman and guitarist Tim Foreman are not only surfing buddies but San Diego-based siblings.

While they both play guitar now in the new, much buzzed-about rock band needtobreathe, brothers Bo and Bear Reinhart certainly had different career ambitions (acting for Bo, professional football for Bear) before they took the stage. But despite their previous occupational dreams, their camaraderie makes the band's live show one that's definitely worth watching.

But wait a minute, what about the sister acts? So glad you asked. While neither of them is actually named Mary, Mary Mary's Erica and Tina Campbell sure know how to make the most of their shared talents. Recently hitting the red carpet for the GRAMMY Awards, we're betting they gave each other fashion advice as they looked fabulous.

Another band with two rather stylish sisters is Superchic[k], as you never know what color hair Tricia and Melissa Brock will be sporting this week. But more importantly than their fashion sense is the fact that they actually get along so well, something they've discussed in countless magazine articles. The same can be said for newcomers (and Disney Channel staples) Aly & AJ. That sure helps when you're spending so much of your time traveling by tour bus together!
