DecembeRadio Turns Up Volume With Rock Debut

Hailing from Blacksburg, Va., Josh Reedy, Brian BunnBoone Daughdrill and Eric Miker – collectively known as DecembeRadio – should've known something was up when, still getting their legs under them as a young band, they were voted Breakout Band of the Year at the 2005 Rock Summit. Those radio jocks simply flipped for the band's vintage rock n' roll sound. Then Billboard magazine came along and pegged them as One to Watch in 2006.

But they didn't let the hoopla go to their young, impressionable heads. So now that their self-titled debut (Slanted Records) is encased in plastic and ready for retail, DecembeRadio has no problem keeping its eye on the prize. But it's probably not what you think (i.e. record sales).

"We want to make great rock 'n' roll music that reaches this generation for Christ," Reedy says. "We want to use the passion for music God has given us to reach people ... It's what we love, and we have a blast doing it!"

Produced by Scotty Wilbanks (Third Day, Overflow, NewSong), DecembeRadio's aggressive rock sound, mesmerizing guitar riffs and killer rhythms conjure up images The Black Crowes, Zeppelin and Skynyrd. But the lyrics are straight up gospel truth, a la Skillet and Third Day.

So rock continues to have its day in the world of Christian music, and this up-and-coming band is just one of the many reasons why.
