ISIS has destroyed three ancient Iraqi cities over the course of three days, according to reports. On Sunday (March 8), the brutal militants conquered Khorsabad, an ancient village that was founded in approximately 720 BC.

The destruction of Khorsabad followed the ransacking of the cities of Nimrud and Hatra on Friday and Saturday Christian Today reports.

UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova said that the destruction of Nimrud was a “war crime.”

"This is yet another attack against the Iraqi people, reminding us that nothing is safe from the cultural cleansing underway in the country," she said. "It targets human lives, minorities, and is marked by the systematic destruction of humanity's ancient heritage."

In another Iraqi city, ISIS militants have reportedly hung dead bodies from the city’s entrance as a demonstration of the group’s barbarity.

Christian News Network reports that the group posted photos that display eight bodies hanging from a metal structure with the Islamic State flag flying above. The bodies have not been identified but authorities believe that the photos were taken at the entrance to the city of Hawija.
