Pence to Meet with Pro-Life Advocates to Discuss No Taxpayer Funding of Abortions

Vice President Mike Pence is reportedly meeting with pro-life advocates at the White House to discuss eliminating taxpayer funding for abortions.

Republicans in Congress have already approved a bill that would defund Planned Parenthood as it repeals Obamacare, but pro-life advocates are concerned that tax credits under the replacement healthcare aren’t used to pay for abortions.

But even some Republicans are concerned about the tax credit, which would replace the existing health law’s subsidies.

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has said the new plan is “Obamacare Lite” and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has begun recommending alternatives.

Tony Perkins, of the Family Research Council, says the council agrees with most of the proposed healthcare plan.

“Like a lot of conservatives, FRC agrees with portions of the AHCA,” he said. “It eliminates two of the problems with the healthcare Hydra: the individual mandate and taxpayers’ forced partnership with the abortion industry. What’s troubling is that the GOP seems to be surrendering to the view that health care is a government entitlement.”

Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood executives have told its supporters that the new healthcare proposal is a threat to millions.

“Republican leadership introduced a bill that would cut millions of patients off from care at Planned Parenthood health center,” an email to supporters said.

During his campaign, Donald Trump promised he would defund Planned Parenthood.
