Today's Scripture

"I will declare Your name to my brethren; in the midst of the congregation will I praise You." - Psalm 22:22 AMP

Thoughts for Today

Just as losing our passionate love for God is reflected in our self-centered motivations for everyday life choices, a dwindling passion for Him can also be reflected in our attitude toward attending church. We begin to see the church only as a place that should please us and meet our needs instead of seeing it as a house of worship. The church is for God, not for people. We need to make Him the focus. Our love for Him should motivate us to worship and praise Him in the congregation.

Consider this …

Have you ever considered leaving a church because someone has offended you? Or maybe the pastor just doesn't see things your way. Maybe you feel as though he doesn't show you enough personal attention. Or you might go from church to church, trying to find the perfect one that will meet all your needs. Perhaps it's time to take an honest look at your priorities.

God loves you. He wants to meet all your needs. As you are willing to focus on Him, rather than your wants, He will meet your needs and give you the desires of your heart.

Are you prepared to declare with the psalmist: "In the midst of the congregation will I praise You." Are you prepared to make the house of worship all about Him—and not all about you?

Prayer

Father, please forgive me for focusing on the church as a place to serve me, rather than a house of worship for me to honor you in praise and worship with my brothers and sisters in Christ. Help me to refocus on Jesus. To declare Your name to my fellow believers and to praise you in the midst of the congregation. In Jesus' name …

A Passionate Pursuit of God: Drawing Nearer to Him by Dr. Mike Chapman. This study teaches participant how to move into God's inner circle, how to listen for the voice of God, how to enjoy the freedom of worship, and how to embrace the mission of worship. This 45-minute format will accommodate groups with limited meeting times. Note: This curriculum was written especially for small groups and we encourage people to use it that way. However, it can also be used effectively as a personal study for individuals or couples.
