Faith IS Action - HomeWord - March 26, 2012

Faith IS Action
This devotional was written by Jim Burns

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
— Proverbs 3:5-6

Faith is acting out your belief in God. Faith is action. Faith is never stagnant. We live near the beach. Because of the action of the waves and the constant movement of the water, the ocean is never stagnant. But right by our house there is a water hole. When it rains, the water hole gets bigger, but because there is no outlet for the water, it quickly stagnates. Inside the water you can see all kinds of living parasites, disease, and fungus. In fact, only a few days of no rain and the water hole begins to smell real bad.

Our faith in Jesus is no different. When we act upon our beliefs, good things will happen, and when we remain stagnant, our faith does not grow. Here are some important principles for today's psalm of praise (Psalm 37:3-5).

Trust in God and do good = safe living

Delight in God = receiving the true desires of your heart

Commit your way to God = your life will shine

With these principles and results for our faith, is there really any better way to live than a life of faith in action? Put your faith, your trust, your life in the hands of God, and watch the results.

GOING DEEPER:

1. Trust, delight, and commit are all action steps to faith. How can you make these more real in your life?

2. Read Hebrews 11. How do these great words challenge your life of faith?

PSALM OF PRAISE:
Trust in the LORD and do good; live in the land and be safe. Seek your happiness in the LORD, and he will give you your heart's desire. Give yourself to the LORD; trust in him, and he will help you.
— Psalm 37:3-5
