8 Prayers to Pray over Your Daughter

One of the greatest privileges parents have is to pray for their children. There are many kinds of prayers parents can pray, and at different stages of their child’s life. Looking down in a cradle at a sweet daughter delights a parent’s heart, and God has plans for that little one too. In that tiny bundle lies a future waiting to unfold, filled with dreams, challenges, and endless possibilities.

Our prayers for our daughters evolve as she grows, adapting to her changing needs and circumstances. They range from prayers for her physical health to requests for her emotional well-being. We pray for her protection, wisdom, and courage. We pray for her to find her purpose and to be a source of light and love in the world. So, we pray, with gratitude in our hearts and a deep sense of responsibility, for God's guidance, blessings, and grace to fill her life at every step of her remarkable journey.

Here are eight prayers a parent might pray for daughters.

1. A Prayer for My Unborn Daughter

Baby feet

Dear God,

Thank you for this baby girl — not yet born, but known and wonderfully designed by You. In Your divine providence, You already have plans for this little girl. I pray You will put a hedge of protection around her in the womb.

I pray for the special day You have ordained for her to be born. I ask you to ease concerns or anxieties in her mother about going through childbirth. Bring peace and strength to her heart. I pray the birth process will be smooth.

Your Word tells me that every offspring is a heritage and reward from You. Thank you for this new little person in my womb. I am excited and eager to meet this little girl, God.

Amen.

2. A Prayer for My Infant Daughter

Lord,

Thank you for this miracle. As I count every finger and toe, and stroke my baby girl’s forehead, I am overwhelmed with love, but also a great sense of responsibility. Because of her, my life and future are altered — and already, I can’t imagine life without her. She is pure innocence and potential, and I wonder if she will be like Deborah, Ruth, Esther, or Mary in the Bible.

I ask You to help her body develop according to Your plans. I pray for health, protection, and even peaceful sleep. Thank you for this incredible, precious gift, Lord. She makes me smile, and I pray that you will strengthen and bless her from head to toe!

I pray You will bring support to help me in times of need as I care for her. I want to make wise choices to cooperate with You in protecting my little girl now, and as I make biblical plans to guide her as she grows. I want to be sensitive to Your leading, Lord, and vigilant to obey you as her parent. I want to give this sweet baby the best possible life and training. Help me remember I can do nothing apart from You. I am glad my daughter and her future are in Your hands.

Amen.

3. A Prayer for My Growing Daughter

Girl playing with chalk

Father God,

Teach me how to parent my young daughter according to Your Word and the way that you have designed her. Give me compassion and understanding toward her when she makes childish mistakes; and help me discipline her in love when dealing with sinful attitudes and actions. I pray You will give a teachable spirit, and that she will mature in every way — body, soul, and spirit — blessed by both You and those who observe her life.

I pray my daughter will not only grow to know about You, Father, but also believe in You and learn at an early age how to follow, listen to, and obey You immediately, completely, and with right attitudes. Give her a heart hungry for truth and wisdom. I pray Your Word will transform her life as she grows, and that You will bless her.

Show my daughter how to deal with temptations and peer pressure quickly and with good judgment and wisdom. Help me teach her how to guard her thoughts and emotions. I pray that when my daughter gets caught doing wrong, she will repent quickly; and when she does what is right, help me notice and praise what is good and valuable in her words and actions. Help me demonstrate how to love and serve others.

I ask You to give my daughter encouraging, healthy friendships. As she begins to sense her purpose in his world, show me how I can help her develop skills to make worthy contributions in life and ministry. Show my daughter how to honor You in all things. And, Father, if You want her to be married someday, I pray You will guide her in that process. I pray her husband will be both strong and tender — a godly man of purity and noble character, specially prepared for her.

Amen.

4. A Prayer for My Daughter Setting Out on Her Own (College or Career)

Teen girl sitting on a laptop

Lord Jesus,

You have watched over my daughter for so many years, and now she is striking out on her own. But she will never be alone. Your presence will continue throughout her life. I pray for so many things as she leaves home on these new adventures. Give her wisdom and discernment for new choices she will make, and help her listen to wise counsel. Grant her courage to stand firm for righteousness and be an example of godliness to others.

I pray my daughter will not become lazy or discontent in every work you design for her to do. No matter where she goes or what she does, I pray You will continue to give her opportunities to develop skills and talents. Make her a woman of vision and high purpose, Lord, and help her lead and serve others with compassion, grace, and humility. I pray that the roles You call her to in these years will bring her joy and fulfillment.

There are many temptations available, but I pray my daughter’s reputation will be one that honors You, Jesus. I pray she will make prudent choices and display good character and integrity. I pray she will be honest and truthful. I pray she will practice self-control, especially in dealing with her emotions. Help her seek peace and be quick to forgive so no bitterness takes root in her heart. I pray that my daughter will be faithful to Your calling on her life, that she will bring You glory, and that You will establish the work of her hands.

Amen.

5. A Prayer for My Daughter’s Faith

little girl holding Bible outside in a field with her eyes closed

Precious Lord,

I pray for my daughter’s salvation and her spiritual walk. I know I cannot force my daughter to embrace faith — to place her trust in the salvation You have provided — but I can answer her questions and pray for her salvation as I share the gospel. I pray that her faith will not rest in human wisdom, but in Your transforming power.

I pray my daughter will have ears to hear, eyes to see, a mind to understand, and a heart that is prepared to receive the truth of Scripture. I ask You to bring godly friends and wise Christ-followers alongside her who will encourage spiritual growth. I pray she will come to love You more than life itself. Guide her in Your truth, and teach her how to walk by faith, walk in love, and walk in the light of Your Word.

It's so easy to become enamored and distracted with the things and fleeting praises of this world. I pray my daughter will set her mind on things above, and consider what truly matters in eternity. And if my daughter strays, Lord, I pray You will draw her back with lovingkindness and great mercy.

Amen.

Scriptures to pray for your daughter’s faith

Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Corinthians 2:5; Ephesians 1:17-19; Deuteronomy 6:5; Romans 1:17; Psalm 25:4-5; Psalm 86:11; 2 Corinthians 5:7; Ephesians 5:1-2; 1 John 1:5-7; Colossians 3:2; Luke 15:13-17; 1 John 2:1

6. A Prayer for My Daughter’s Strength and Courage

Mighty God,

These are perilous days with many reasons to fear, but You are with us, and I pray my daughter will learn to rely on Your presence and power. When she feels afraid, I pray You will make Yourself known to her.

I pray You will make my daughter strong and courageous, like Queen Esther in the Bible, to do the work You have called her to do. Give her a great sense of justice and truth, and use her example to motivate others to do great exploits for You and to stand against evil.

I pray my daughter will take up the pieces of armor You have provided to fight her battles in Your strength, not her own. When she feels weak, remind her You are more than sufficient for every need. I pray she will be strong in fighting temptations, and courageous to walk in Your ways so she will prosper. And God, I pray my daughter will become a powerful witness for You, not ashamed of Jesus or the Gospel.

Amen.

7. A Prayer for My Married Daughter

Lord,

I’m thankful You brought my daughter a husband, and I pray that they will love You and desire to serve You in their marriage. As they each draw closer to You, I know they will be drawn closer to each other. Build their communication skills and help them learn to trust and encourage each other. Strengthen the bonds of their marriage through every circumstance of life.

I pray my daughter will be a godly wife, and that she will dwell with her husband in humility and love. I pray she will exhibit all the characteristics of Christ in their marriage — compassion, tenderness, loyalty, and so much more. I pray she will strive to follow her husband’s leadership, and be patient with him when he fails. I pray she will encourage him to be a man of God — not trying to change him from how You have designed him to be as a man, or manipulating him to get her own way. Help her appreciate his manliness, and remember that he is a gift from You.

Protect their marriage bed in these wicked days, Lord. I pray their marriage will be a strong example to others in the family and in the church community. Please provide for all they need.

Amen.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for blessing my daughter with a child. I pray my daughter will learn from the Scriptures what it looks like to be a good mother. I pray You will give her endless patience in the days ahead, and help her discipline her child with truth and compassion. Give her wisdom and humility to parent this child’s unique heart and personality.

I pray my daughter will always be a safe place for her child, loving and comforting in the hard times and skillfully sharing wisdom at each appropriate level. Teach her biblical priorities, and remind her You are always with her.

Father, make my daughter a woman of prayer who leads her children by example “in word and deed.” I pray her child will learn what true love looks like by observing my daughter’s choices and responses. I pray she will manage her household in Your ways and create an atmosphere of peace and refuge for her family.
