Despite Buzzfeed’s recent article criticizing them for allegedly being anti-gay, Chip and Joanna Gaines are refusing to retaliate and have instead asked their fans to respect the author of the article.
Kate Aurthur of Buzzfeed launched a controversy with her article on the Fixer Upper stars in which she drew attention to the fact that the Gainses attend a church whose pastor condemns homosexuality.
Despite the lack of comments on the subject of same-sex marriage made by the Gainses themselves, Aurthur wrote that “Fixer Upper has fans of all stripes: Christians, feminists and LGBT viewers have all found something to love in the Gaineses. So in the absence of a response from them or their representatives, it’s worth looking at the severe, unmoving position Seibert and Antioch take on same-sex marriage.”
The Fixer Upper couple has made no secret of their Christian faith, but as The Daily Signal noted, their show focuses on their home improvement ideas and does not mention politics or religion.
To Christians who are truly committed to their faith, opposition is to be expected, however, writes Trevin Wax at The Gospel Coalition.
The Gainses apparently have enough perspective on the controversy to know that retaliating is not a wise response.
Instead, Chip Gainses requested that followers respect the author of the Buzzfeed article criticizing them.
He also added:

Although the Gainses have not issues a statement in response to the controversy, their pastor, Jimmy Seibert of Antioch Community Church, has clarified the church's stance regarding same-sex marriage.
