Prince or Pauper?
If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.
John 4:10

I recently heard about a fifty-one year old man charged with burglary.  What’s strange about that?  Well, the man is the son of a billionaire oil tycoon.  He was found hiding under a table in a shop with a few miscellaneous items.

I was struck by how sad this story seemed—a man who is heir to a fortune…who probably even has a fortune—living as if he was a pauper.  Then it occurred to me how often we as Christians behave the same way.  We’re heirs to the king of kings. Yet so often we grasp for the rusty nickels this world has to offer.  We long for the acceptance of man though we’re loved by the One who created man.  We lust after things, though our Father is the giver of all good gifts.

How do you see yourself?  Prince?  Or Pauper?  It’s a choice only you can make.  God yearns for you to choose to be His child.

“Wealth is the parent of luxury and indolence, and poverty of meanness and viciousness, and both of discontent.” - Plato (427 BC-347BC)
