VITAL SIGNS: God Desires Unity | 1 Corinthians 1:4-9 | Devotional

1 Corinthians 1:4-9 I always thank God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. For in him you have been enriched in every way-- in all your speaking and in all your knowledge-- because our testimony about Christ was confirmed in you. Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.

There are some issues that Paul needs to address with the Corinthian believers. Some changes must occur. But first things first. Paul begins his letter by letting the church know that God has given them everything that they need to live a vibrant Christian life and to be a healthy vibrant church. Check this out:

  • God has given them grace in Jesus.
  • God has made them spiritually rich.
  • God has given them every spiritual gift that they need.
  • God will keep them strong.
  • God will, because of the cross, accept them as blameless.
  • God has placed them into fellowship with Jesus.
  • God is faithful to the end and through eternity.

There is nothing more that they need; there is nothing more that they could possibly want.

God has given us the very same things! We have everything that we need to be a healthy vibrant church committed to engage the spiritually disconnected with the life- transforming message of Jesus, equip the believer with spiritual tools for spiritual growth, and employ the equipped believer to sacrificial service. God has given us everything that we need! Let’s get it done…His way.

Father, may we never squander your spiritual blessings. May we never waste our spiritual wealth. May we be a church impassioned to engage, equip, and employ for your honor and glory and praise. In Christ’s Name and for His sake, Amen.
