The Christian Community Expresses Their Condolences to the Late Christian Singer and Grammy Award-Artist Mandisa

As CrosswalkHeadlines previously reported, Mandisa passed away last Thursday (April 18) at the age of 47. At the present time, no cause of death has been revealed. Mandisa’s sudden death has shocked the Christian community and abroad. “I had the privilege of sharing the stage with Mandisa several times. She will always be THE voice of the song, Christmas Day, and I won’t ever be able to perform that song without thinking of her,” wrote Grammy-award Christian artist Michael W. Smith. 

“Mandisa was an overcomer,” he added. “Her heart and spirit changed people for the better. I am so happy to KNOW that I will see her again.  While we mourn, she worships in the presence of Jesus tonight.”

Toby Mac, who has collaborated with Mandisa on several songs such as “Lose My Soul,” “Bleed The Same,” and “Good Morning,” described the late singer as “honest” and “authentic.” “We lost a beautiful soul…I have never met an artist who is more encouraging and supportive to other artists than Mandisa,” Mac tweeted. “She was honest and authentic but I always left her side feeling better. I was honored to call her friend.”

The hit faith-based series The Chosen also paid tribute to Mandisa by posting her song “Get Used To Different,” which was featured on the show’s Christmas special. 

“Sing with the angels, 'Disa,” the show wrote on its official page on X, formerly Twitter.

Mandisa, whose full name is Mandisa Lynn Hundley, finished in the Top 9 of 2006’s American Idol before launching her career in Contemporary Christian Music. Her first album, True Beauty, hit No. 1 on the Billboard Christian album charts, as well as her final two albums Overcomer and Out of the Dark.

She also published her book, Out of the Dark: My Journey Through the Shadows to Find God's Joy, where she opened up about her struggles with depression. Additionally, Mandisa co-hosted the podcast Out of the Dark with Mandisa and Laura Williams.

As noted by content creator and professing Christian Terrace Crawford, Mandisa publicly chose not to be defined by her accolades.

“Look at her bio. She says #AmericanIdol Season 5 LOSER, #Grammy #DoveAward   #KLoveFanAward WINNER.  Defined by NEITHER,” Crawford wrote, posting a picture of Mandisa’s bio on X.

“The BEST thing you can do is find your IDENTITY in Christ,” he continued.
