A hearing for Dylann Roof, the man charged in the shooting of nine people at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, is set for July 13.

According to SRNNews.com, the now 22-year-old Roof could face the death penalty.

The hearing will take place only a few weeks after the one-year anniversary of the shooting which took the lives of nine African-Americans, including the pastor of the Emanuel AME Church, who were gathered at the church for a Bible study.

Despite Roof’s actions and racist comments, members of the Charleston church made news when they publicly forgave Roof. On the anniversary of the shooting, church members remained confident in their faith and stated, "Now is the time to focus on God."

Roof will be tried federally in November, and may face the death penalty for 33 different charges, including hate crimes and obstruction of religion.

Roof’s state trial will take place in January where he also may face the death penalty for nine counts of murder.
