Oregon Cake Makers Must Pay $135,000 after Refusing to Make a Cake for Gay Wedding

Oregon cake-makers who refused to bake a cake for a homosexual wedding have been fined $135,000 for their refusal.
According to ABCNews.com, Aaron Klein, the co-owner of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, refused to bake a cake for the wedding of homosexual couple Laurel and Rachel Bowman-Cryer.
Klein eventually complied with the state’s demands that his bakery pay for emotional suffering caused by his refusal.
Klein has reportedly issued a check in the amount of $136,927.07, which includes interest. In addition, Klein paid $7,000 earlier this month.
A law enacted in Oregon in 2007 protects the rights of homosexuals, bisexuals, and transgender people in employment, housing, and public accommodations. It is also illegal for private businesses to discriminate against customers.
Klein’s lawyer, Anna Harmon, was not available to comment on the case.
