Building Bridges and Drawing Lines
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1: 14
In our world, it’s inevitable that we will encounter people whose beliefs and perspectives don’t align with God’s plan or purpose. As Christians, though, we are called to stand firm in our beliefs. So how do balance our call to ‘make disciples of all nations’ while remaining sensitive to a world filled with opposing viewpoints? How can we reach a world that sees differently than we do? It’s all about building bridges and drawing lines in the sand.
To reach people with the good news of Jesus, we must first extend the grace of God (build bridges) while remaining steadfast in the truth of God (drawing lines). When you meet someone who has a different perspective than you, don’t start by telling them they are wrong. Instead, see them as loved by God and extend the grace that God has extended to you. Then, rely on God to show you the time to draw the line.
As you encounter people who think, act and believe differently than you, pray for God to give you the wisdom and patience to reach them with His message and show them His love.
On a piece of paper, write GRACE and TRUTH. Under each word, write a short list of ways you can extend that to the people in your life.
Fifty Shades of They gives you fifty simple, yet profound insights that will help any relationship thrive, from friendships to business partnerships to marriages. Based on biblical standards and the teaching of Ed Young, this book is written for anyone who is looking to give new life to their relationships.
