When People Remember Me - One Year Devotions for Women

As soon as the body touched Elisha’s bones, the dead man revived and jumped to his feet! - 2 Kings 13:21

When good people die and are buried, is that the end of them? Not at all. The Bible records that a miracle occurred involving Elisha’s body after his death. Later that spring when a man’s dead body was hastily thrown into Elisha’s tomb, it touched Elisha’s bones and immediately “the dead man revived and jumped to his feet!” (2 Kings 13:21). That was true resurrection power manifesting itself through contact with a holy man’s bones!

When I look at Elisha speaking up for the Lord even on his deathbed and his body showing God’s power even after his death, I am reminded that God’s calling on our lives does not falter at the door of death! Aging is but the birth pang of a new dimension of life and influence that can continue far beyond the grave. Elisha left behind a legacy of words, God’s words. God’s words were recorded for our good. The Bible records Elisha’s teaching, his miracles, and his dealings with both kings and commoners. To leave behind a legacy of words and actions should be the aim of a holy life! We should ask ourselves, “When people think of my life, what will happen? Will they feel the Spirit’s power?”

What legacy will I leave? What evidence will show that I spent my life serving and honoring God? Elisha’s life was stamped by courage and perseverance. Such holy consistency is attainable today by the same Spirit that inspired and sustained Elisha.
