Thankful | Philippians 1:3-11
Philippians 1:3-11 I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me. God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus. And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ-- to the glory and praise of God.
Think about the people God has put in your life? A parent. A friend. Roommate. Work associate. Brother. Sister.
Think about the person who led you to Jesus. Hear their loving explanation of the gospel. See the tears in their eyes when you said, “I believe.” Remember how you rejoiced together.
Think about the person who discipled you. They were so patient with all your questions. They gently rebuked your childish sins. They invested themselves in you. See the pride in their eyes when they watch you fly.
Think of the person who encouraged you. From the hospital bed you saw the care in their eyes. They read Scripture with you. They prayed for you. They fixed meals for your family. They cut your lawn and helped you out financially. And as humbling as it was, you could see they joy overflowing in their service.
Think of the person who comforted you. The one who stood by you at the graveside. They didn’t say a word. They didn’t say how God was working all this for your good. They demonstrated the ministry of presence. They offered a shoulder to cry on. They cried too.
Take the time to remember the people God has placed in your life. And thank him for each one of them.
