The Spirit Lives in Me | 1 Corinthians 3:16
1 Corinthians 3:16 Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in your midst?
In the Old Testament the temple was the house of God. Believers went to the temple to meet with God and seek his favor and forgiveness through sacrifices. Many journeyed for several days over rough terrain to arrive at the place where God lived. Now all that has changed!
The sacrificial system of the Old Testament was completed for all time with the perfect sacrifice of the Lamb, Jesus Christ. Now there is favor and forgiveness for all who trust in Jesus as the One who died on their behalf and paid the penalty for their sins. Through Jesus we can have a personal relationship with the living God, a very personal relationship.
When a person trusts in Jesus as their Savior, the Holy Spirit takes up residence in their heart. The Spirit of God actually lives in us! We become the living, breathing houses of God. He will be in us and with us forever. The believer is significant because of the presence of God in him or her. Our identity is in Christ. We are secure. You are God’s child forever!
Father, thank you for the fact that your Holy Spirit lives in me. Thank you for making me your temple, the place where you dwell. Thank you for your promise that you will never move out of my heart, your home. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
