Hello, My Name is ... God | Psalm 11:4

Psalm 11:4 The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD is on his heavenly throne. He observes the sons of men; his eyes examine them.

In this short verse, David describes the majesty of the sovereign Lord who reigns supreme from his holy temple, and at the same time, the intimacy of the Father who never takes his eye off of his children. These characteristics of God should give us great comfort and confidence.

The Lord is in complete control, reigning supreme. Our heavenly Father, who loves us so much that he sent his Son to die for our sins, oversees everything that goes on in our life. This same Lord also closely examines our life. He never takes his eyes off of us. We are constantly in his sight. He sees everything going on in our lives, from the fleeting thoughts to the heart’s desire to every action and interaction.

And here’s what blows me away—he still loves me. He knows what thoughts enter into my mind…and he still loves me. He knows the desires that work their way into my “deceitful” and “desperately wicked” heart…and he still loves me. He is not blind to my sins of commission and omission…and he still loves me. The holy Lord who reigns supreme observes me and examines me - and loves me anyway. That’s grace!

Father, thank you for loving me, not because of who I am, but in spite of who I am. Thank you for your grace. I pray that truth brings comfort and confidence to discouraged hearts. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
