Your Eye is the Lamp of Your Body - Warrior Mom Wisdom - Week of May 9

Warrior Mom Wisdom Devotional

YOUR EYE IS THE LAMP OF YOUR BODY…

Luke 11:34

When I was at boot camp, I saw fear in the eyes of young recruits. I even saw fear in my own eyes sometimes when I looked in the mirror. I’ve always been aware of people’s eyes. Eyes say it all. You can see evil in eyes. You can see love, joy, fear, pain, and wonderment in peoples’ eyes. So, when we read that the eye is the lamp to the body, it’s not a brand new concept.

No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead he puts it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be completely lighted, as when the light of a lamp shines on you.”

Luke 11:33-36

Let us encourage one another to place the light of God within us in a prominent spot in a dark room or circumstance. Mother’s Day used to make me sad. I used to focus on the past, and the pain from my childhood. It was as if I couldn’t enjoy Mother’s Day with my own kids because I was sad about Mother’s Days from my childhood or fearful of a new Mother’s Day. I teared up every Mother’s Day eve and asked God to help me get through the next day. I dreaded it, and I was mad and sad that I dreaded it. But, I came across Isaiah 66:13, “As a Mother comforts her child so I will comfort you.” And I realized that God could and would love me like a mother if I allowed Him to do so. I will be praying for you this Mother’s Day. May you rejoice in the fact that you are a daughter of the most loving Father ever: Father-God.

During this Mother’s Day weekend, may you put on a little extra mascara or try a new eye-shadow. Enjoy highlighting the art of your eyes through which the light of God shines.
