You Can’t Have Two Thoughts Simultaneously
I was speaking with a good friend who was waiting to hear the results of some medical tests, specifically to see if she had cancer. Since she survived breast cancer ten years ago, this was a little unnerving. In fact, waiting a week turned in to waiting two weeks. I asked her how she was doing, and she said, “I’m restless; I don’t like not knowing.” I told her to find a scripture that she could repeat 150 times a day if she needed to. “Whenever the negative thoughts, fears and/or questions enter your mind, recite your scripture. You can’t have two thoughts simultaneously.” The last part came out of my mouth, but I know it wasn’t me saying it. It was directly from God. She thought that was an amazing idea. I told her it was God’s not mine. I have thought about how smart God is. He is an amazing counselor. I’ve been telling women for over 2 years to use the Word of God as their defense, and I’ve encouraged them to write scriptures down on index cards and carry them with them throughout the day. When another friend flew to Sweden last year because her mom was dying of cancer, I gave her my small, index card size 3-ring notebook full of my index cards with scriptures on them. I told her, “Whenever you feel sad or scared, read a scripture.” God wants to encourage us with His Word. He knows exactly what we need when we need it. If we press into Him, He will press into us, and give us more intimacy than we ever imagined. The next time you are having negative thoughts, get your scripture and repeat it all day long because God is a genius! You truly cannot have two thoughts simultaneously, so have good God-Strong ones.
Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or head from me, or see in me – put into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

I want to update you on my friend: She claimed the following verse for two weeks:
Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praises his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits - who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems you life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
The doctor told her that the results came back negative for cancer; in fact, it appears as if the body parts, with which the doctor was concerned, are now completely restored (to a youthful state!)
