Singled Out for Him: Pursuing God
- Friday, October 10, 2003
That is why I am committed to letting Him choose for me what gifts I will have, and to embracing His choice with all my heart. I will not spend my life pining away for something He has not chosen for me. I choose to be content with His choice for me and refuse to give in to a spirit of discontentment. I choose to be His glad servant and to let Him take and use my life in whatever way will please Him most.
For whatever period of time I am single, by God's grace, I want to be totally His in body, soul, and spirit. I want to know Him, to love Him, to serve Him, and to glorify Him in our world. I want to live each day in His presence, living for His pleasure and looking for His soon return to take me to my eternal Home.
We referred earlier to Frances Ridley Havergal. Frances was not physically strong; at the age of 33, she caught a chill and a short time later passed away. One of her best-known hymns flowed from the heart of an unmarried woman whose life was totally devoted to the Lord. This is my prayer. Would you join me in making it yours today?
Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet, and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose.
Take my will, and make it Thine:
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart; it is Thine own:
It shall be Thy royal throne.
Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure-store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee.
