Enjoyed this article so much! Hope to see more like it! After an unwanted divorce, and several deaths in my family, we can feel so battered emotionally. But I know God is faithful, and there will be joy in my life again. Was so encouraged a couple weeks ago, when I heard a sermon on Joseph, and all the betrayal and trials he had to walk through. And how God greatly blessed him for waiting and not becoming bitter! We serve a great God, whose love will always see us through!
"We are going to see many more of them if same-sex "marriage" is FOISTED UPON us by the courts." I'm gonna play devil's advocate. What Christians are doing is exactly what "they" are trying to fight. "YOU ARE TAKING AWAY A GOD GIVEN CHOICE!!!!" Yes, the Bible calls it a sin. Yes, the Lord has given everyone A CHOICE. Adam and Eve was given a choice to eat of the fruit or choose truth. I think what we need to do is lead them to Christ, teach them the way of the Lord and if they still choose sin then SO BE IT! Peter, Paul and all the rest of the disciples did not LOBBY to take the choice to sin away from anyone! Pray for those that know not what they do, raise them in the way that they should go and leave the choosing for men as God intended.
If you are not convicted against seeing a film that uses the Lord's name in vain, there that is your conviction. I am convicted to not see the film unless I do not hear such language. Some people don't notice it, but I have only been in the theatre for 30 seconds at a time (30 seconds max; we have to go in and check the theatres to make sure people aren't being obnoxious and that the sound is working, etc.) and the two times I have done so I almost immediately heard God's name used in vain both times. Poor timing? Probably, but I would most definitely hear and dislike hearing all 9 instances of blasphemy. I just don't think it was necessary for them to do it in the film. I also don't see it as justifiable, the actors (and subsequently the director) are using the Lord's name is such a trivial way as to simply portray shock in a film. I don't agree with that.
I found this article exactly what the seeking christian needs to hear. I have a friend that asks questions and sometimes I can't think of an answer on the spot. This article makes it clear and easy to understand the questions of Christainity. It was a great help!
Mr. Throckmorton: It is not that I have "moved away" from a prolife stance but rather that I see that stance being used by politicians for votes. The present administration has been reported as courting evangelicals while deriding and laughing at them behind their back. Also as stated elsewhere this prolife President who got my vote both times is responsible for torture, sodomy etc. of prisoners. It is also obvious that conservatives want to cut funding for many social programs, good or bad. As the father of 2 disabled sons who need 24 hour care I can assure you that this will have catastrophic consequences for my family. Indeed it has always puzzled me how conservative evangelicals can turn such a deaf ear to other pressing issues such as care for the weakest in the name of voting their conscience before God. I would feel better supporting McCain if he would not align himself with conservatives that call help for the poor and sick as entitlements.I can't do Justice either way!
We often forget the role of the Spirit in our lives. In summary, Ro.8:3-4, “law was powerless to do…, God did by sending his own Son… to be a sin offering… in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.” Gal.s 5:16-25, “but if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law”. It is the fruit of the Spirit that produces in our lives righteousness of God (which is God’s character), - hence Torah fulfilled. Should we give? Yes. How much? Keep with your income (1 Cor. 16:2) and ask God for wisdom (James 1:5) and give under compulsion (2 Cor. 9:7) but cheerfully. That amount may be greater than 10% or less or a fixed amount. Regardless, the observance of Torah is not longer applicable. If you want to pay a tithe, great! But don’t be so eager to put your fellow believers under a yoke of bondage as how some Christians believed they needed to continue circumcision of the flesh.
Break up is not biblical at all. If someone cannot love their partner how will they love their enemies? (Matthew 5:43-44). Christian love is unconditional. If that is true, then there is not one reason to break up.
If you break up with your partner then how do you expect God to maintain the relationship with you too? We expect God to love us unconditionally and tell all kinds of excuses whenever we fail pleasing God. But we don't take one last excuse not to breakup? 1st Corinthians 13:2-8 talks about love. If we have that unconditional love there is no room for breakup at all. We define we limit we measure our own love. But christian should be loving as 1st Corinthians 13 says.
I am really sad to hear people do break up and try to justify that are doing it biblically. Break up is sin too on Gods eyes. So better you don't sin.
Make no mistake, Chuck is exactly right. From personal experience these gay-marriage activists hate Christ and Christians and will take our freedom of speech and religion away.
One of the presidential candidates is in favor of gay marriage, I really honestly fear for our country if that... person wins.
I feel like several people have attacked me personally because I saw the movie and enjoyed it--though God's name was apparently used in vain. I didn't know that it was in there when I bought my ticket, nor can I honestly say that I even heard it used in vain.
Let me make this clear, I do not feel that I did anything wrong in the eyes on the Lord when I saw that movie, nor do I feel that I need to repent of anything.
I would like to say that I am thankful God has grace and and compassion
