Many who come and see me are agitated, anxious and in distress. In a panic they are hardly able to think clearly. In the midst of any storm it is natural to panic, overreact, just as the disciples did on the Sea of Galilee. But Jesus challenges them to settle down, and in fact demands that the sea obeys him as well. “Peace, be still,” he says (Matthew 8:23-27.) Whatever crisis you are in, be sure Jesus’ words will be helpful—“Peace, be still.” You will make much better decisions from a calm, clear place than in the midst of panic.
