"The hand of the diligent will rule, but the slack [slothful] hand will be put to forced labor" (Proverbs 12:24).
To be slothful means to be apathetic or inactive.William had been out of work for nearly a year. He had little money left in his checking account and was worried about the financial situation of his family. He had some investments but didn't know their value.
William was surprised to find out the investments were valued at over $20,000. The fact that he didn't know about this detail might be indicative of why he hadn't worked in nearly a year. He had been fired from his last job, possibly because he didn't pay attention to the needs of his employer either.
This kind of action is the slothfulness warned about in the Scripture. Being slothful in one area usually translates into other areas. His home was in disrepair-not a surprise.
William's failure to take care of the things God had placed in his care was due to slothfulness. He confessed this attitude and asked for God's help.
The best way to keep what you have is to take care of it. As Proverbs 27:23 says: "Know well the condition of your flocks, and pay attention to your herds."
Ask God to show you what you need to do to take better care of what He has entrusted to you.
