How to Share Jesus Christ with Your Friends

Jack Graham

Many years ago, Bud Wilkinson, the great old football coach of Oklahoma University, defined the game by saying, "Football is when thousands of fans in the stands desperately in need of exercise are watching 22 young men on the field desperately in need of rest."

And you know, that could describe the church today in many ways! There are so few in the game actually sharing their faith. Most are in the stands just watching!

But the truth is if you are a follower of Christ… if you claim the Lord Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior… you are called to share your faith with others.

In fact, Jesus said it Himself in Acts 1:8, "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth" (emphasis added).

Even though Jesus expects us to share our faith, many followers of Christ today find it difficult… even scary. If this describes you today, I want to offer you a word of encouragement:

In spite of your weaknesses, in spite of your past mistakes or struggles, you can be an effective and successful witness for the Lord Jesus Christ.

You can share your faith!

Here's how. First, ask God to give you a passion for people. That's where it all begins! Sharing your faith isn't so much a program or technique as it is a passion of the heart. So ask God to give you a burden… a desire… a passion… to talk to your friends and family about Jesus.

Second, be authentic. Most people can identify with the ordinary, real experiences you've had in your life. So don't be afraid to let people know how God is working in those ordinary, everyday experiences! Remember… people aren't looking for perfection. They're looking for someone who's real.

Third, love people unconditionally. This is a hard one! But this is what Jesus did… and it's what you and I are to do as well…no matter how people may mistreat or misuse us.

Finally, share Jesus now!  This is why Jesus said in John 4:35, "Lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest." It's the responsibility of every Christian to introduce as many people as possible to Jesus. Today! Right now!

It's my prayer that you will get out of your comfort zone this week… and begin sharing your story of God's grace in your life with those who need to hear it!

I live each day trying to listen for the leadership of the Holy Spirit. I am writing about the Contemplative Meditation/Emerging Church false teachings in a space and on a web site.

I had four illnesses in less than two months that kept me from going to church. I finally asked the Father and my Lord Jesus to make Satan quit putting these illnesses on me.

I am not well. I was led to Jesus by a friend who asked me if I had a personal savior. God can use anyone saying what He wants them to in order to bring a person to Jesus.

We much live it, but also share it. That is the salvation by Jesus Christ. We must not be shy about asking a person if he/she is saved or has a personal savior.

God is drawing people to Himself. We are often His instruments to do this. We must obey His Word.

Thank you for encouraging Christians to do what Christ gave us as our Great Commission. Too many think it's not their responsibility, and I don't know how they come to that conclusion. Jesus said:
"Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for MY SAKE AND THE GOSPEL'S, the same shall save it.
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of Me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when He cometh in the glory of His Father with the holy angels." Mark 8:34-38
If we are ashamed to preach His word, He made it clear that He will be ashamed of us. This is a loving exhortation to pray for passion for people's souls- especially as the days pass by and we get closer to the end....

We are to "redeem the time" we have NOW. If Jesus had waited until He had people's respect and trust to be heard, He never would have gotten around to preaching, for there are sooo many stiff necked, hard hearted people. But God's Word is like a sword, piercing through the hardest hards, and breaking the soil so the seed can be planted and watered. I have witnessed to people who at first said, "I don't want to hear that, don't come to me with that God stuff", but when LOVE persisted (it has to be Spirit led) those same people actually came back with questions!! I was soo amazed, and blessed to be able to share the Gospel from the beginning fall of man, to the redemptive work of Christ for us on the cross with the very people who had asked me not to speak. Prayer is HUGE in the battle. God stirred up curiosity in their hearts, enough to ask and hear. Don't waste another minute!
