A town in Cuba is set to build a new Catholic church, the first church that has been constructed since Fidel Castro came to power in 1959.

The church will be built in the remote town of Sandino, Christian Today reports. Construction will take about two years.

Currently, the congregation that will use the church observes Mass in a converted garage.

Money for construction was mostly donated from a congregation in Florida, the St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

St. Lawrence’s vicar Rev. Tom Morgan told CNN, "Much of Tampa's history and culture comes from Cuba. It's absolutely fantastic they are building a new church, and I hope to be able to visit one day."
