Present with the Lord | 2 Corinthians 5:6-10
2 Corinthians 5:6-10 Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
The disease was taking its toll. The doctors gave no hope. We sat in his living room and discussed what it would be like. Death is a heavy topic. He was not afraid to die. He reasoned that many had taken the journey before him. He would miss his children and grandchildren though. The thought of not being a part of their lives was tough to handle.
“Will I go straight to heaven or will there be a waiting period of sorts?” Always practical, he wanted to know what was on the other side. So I took him to this verse. Clear, isn’t it? When we are home in the body we are away from the Lord. But when death comes for the Christ follower, when we are away from the body, we are at home with the Lord. Close your eyes in death; wake up and see his face.
No waiting. No purgatory. No getting prayed out or prayed through. Absent from the body, present with the Lord. And then…the party starts!
