Confirmation

Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. 1 Peter 1:10-11

The living hope within every true believer is confirmed day by day as we read the Bible. Whether we are in the Old Testament, which looks forward to the coming of our Savior, or in the New Testament, which looks at what our Savior has done for us, our confidence is built on the imperishable Word that "stands forever" (1 Peter 1:25).

The prophets of old spoke of a future grace and took pains to understand and reveal how and when that grace would come about. The Spirit inspired them to write time and again that the coming Grace-Giver would suffer before "the glories that would follow."

Take some time today to read Isaiah 52:13-53:12. Here the prophet, directed by the "Spirit of Christ" writes about the sufferings and the glories of Jesus, seven hundred years before His death, burial, and resurrection. Remember, the recipients of this letter were facing persecution and needed confidence to stand firm. We need that same confidence to stand firm in obedience today.

Father, thank You for Your inspired Word that speaks to the issues of my life and gives me the confidence to stand firm in obedience. In Jesus' name. Amen.
