The Journey with Ron Moore

More Than Words | 1 Corinthians 15:24-25 | Devotional

1 Corinthians 15:24-25 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

Ok, so here’s what we need to know about the kingdom of God—it is “already,” but “not yet.”

  • First, it is already here. In response to the Pharisees who asked when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus said “the kingdom is within you” (Luke 17:21). For the believer, new birth places us within the kingdom of God and the indwelling Holy Spirit empowers us for kingdom living. We are a new creation. Our mind and heart have been renewed. We are children of the King and desire to live as children of the King.
  • Second, it is not yet here. We are children of the King living in his enemy’s realm. We get sucked in to all the consequences of sin. Sometimes we hurt others. Sometimes others hurt us. There are times we don’t behave like children of the King. Pain, hurt, illness, disease, death surrounds us in the enemy’s realm. This is not the way it’s supposed to be.

The believer’s challenge stems from the fact that we are caught in between two worlds. But one day that will all change. The end will come to the present world. All the dominion, authority, and power of Satan will be destroyed. The kingdom of God will exist finally and forever.

Those struggles you have now…that’s the inevitable result of a King’s child living in the enemy’s realm. Hang on! It’s gonna get good!!

Father, may we live as Your children in the “already” kingdom and may we look forward to the day when it will be finally and fully here. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
