You might have been picked for recess teams based on your fast feet.
You may have attracted someone with your sense of humor, stunning looks, or skills on the dance floor.
You might have been hired because you’re organized and efficient.
But why did God choose you? Why did he decide to rescue, protect, and bless you?
A deep-down part of me assumes that God chose me because, well, I’m ME. I’m nice. (And you should see me dance.)
Now I sound just like the Israelites. They, too, figured that God had plucked them from slavery and obscurity because they were special. Surely they had sealed their privileged spot in his affection with their expensive sacrifices and careful diet. But Moses was blunt: “The LORD did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery” (Deuteronomy 7:7,8).
Moses said, “You were nobodies. God chose you for two reasons: 1) he loved you 2) he was keeping his promise.”
Same here. God didn’t rescue us from Satan because we’re special. He liberated us with Jesus’ blood out of love and loyalty to his word.
God has graced a world of nobodies with his love and promises. That’s what makes us special.
