A Revelation In Jerusalem
Why are you looking in a tomb for someone who is alive? He isn't here! He has risen from the dead! (Luke 24:5-6).
Sometime ago while visiting Jerusalem, I sat inside the tomb in which it is believed the body of our Lord Jesus Christ was laid on the day of His crucifixion.
I had gone to this garden tomb with a great sense of excitement. Somehow I felt that my wonderful Savior and Lord would meet me there in a unique and special way as He had done in no other place, and at no other time.
Silently I waited, alone. Time passed and nothing happened. I was disappointed.
But then I remembered the words of those angelic beings who spoke to the followers of Jesus on the first Easter morning. "Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen!" (Luke 24:5-6, KJV).
At that moment I understood, as never before, that the Lord Jesus, the risen Christ, was most certainly there with me in that tomb, just as He is present in every other part of the world where men place their faith and trust in Him. It was a dramatic reminder that our Lord is not in any one place and is not confined to single human body as He was when on the earth.
The Lord Jesus has risen! Before he left, He promised, "The Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid" (John 14:25-27, NIV).
The resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ is not theological speculation, but a historical fact, with more solid evidence than that of any other ancient historical event. It is the greatest event in history, and the recognition of it and trust in this Resurrected One is the single most important thing any person can do.
"Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born" (1 Corinthians 15:3-8, NIV).
Any argument for the truth of Christianity stands or falls on the proof of our Lord's resurrection. It stands!
Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,
