The Significance of Jews and Christians Coming Together to Pray for Israel

The significance of the Global Prayer for Israel has many dimensions. One of these is the date itself. May 15, 1948, is the day that Israel restored Jewish sovereignty in the Land of Israel. Israel’s enemies refer to this as the “Nakba,” the catastrophe of Israel being born. If any reminder were needed after October 7, it means that still today, they aspire to destroy Israel. Israel’s enemies deny historic and Biblical truth and say that Israel has no legitimacy.  

At war for seven months following the inhuman Hamas massacre of October 7, the significance of Jews and Christians coming together has never been greater. Israelis and Jews around the world have never felt more alone since the Holocaust. Other than Jews and Christians sharing the common faith that God hears and answers our prayers, the Global Prayer for Israel will be an encouragement for Israelis and Jews around the world.

Each hour session will have a Jewish and a Christian moderator and dozens of people praying for the theme of that hour. Gidon Ariel of Root Source noted, “This is the first time that so many Christians and Jews are getting together to pray. Prayer is always significant, but today, the Jewish people are facing horrors the likes of which we haven't seen since the days of the Holocaust. Christians must decide if they are standing with the People of God or with their enemies, God forbid,” adding, “When Jews and Christians come together in prayer, it creates a power that cannot be overcome.” 

Al McCarn, Executive Director of B'ney Yosef North America added, "Jews and Christians have been divided for far too long. We do have significant differences, but we have far more in common in our mutual devotion to the God of Israel.

Response to and registration for the Global Prayer for Israel has spanned the corners of the earth, with people from dozens of countries participating so far.

Shirley Burdick, founder of Ten Gentiles, which has a strong presence in Asia, observed, “We did not imagine seeing the horror of the Holocaust again in our lifetime; we did not imagine seeing fierce antisemitism among youth all over the world.  It is critical for all who love God to stand together to pray to Him to defeat this evil. And what a privilege it is to be able to pray with the Jewish people and beseech the God of Israel together for the protection of His people, for Israel’s victory over evil, and for His mercy and His light unto the gentile nations.”

Calling for all to participate, David Nekrutman, Executive Director of The Isaiah Projects commented, “God has anchored His destiny with the Jewish nation and the geographic location of Israel. Until both are praised by all, both Jews and Christians need to fulfill our mandate to actualize them. This requires us to pray together in order to understand how to fulfill these purposes in the times we are living in. At a time when Jews are betraying their own, a vocal minority within the Church are supporting Hamas, or many remain silent, we need to hear His wisdom in moving forward together.”

Laura Densmore of Bridge Connector Ministries added a Biblical and an architectural metaphor. “’ In that day I will raise up the fallen tent of David and wall up its breaches; I will also raise up its ruins and rebuild it as in the days of old.’ (Amos 9:11) This is a unique and golden opportunity for Jews and Christians to come together into a virtual tabernacle, raise up David’s tent, and fill it with prayers for Israel and praise to the God of Israel!”

The Global Prayer for Israel will take place over several and all the continents of the world, praying for the hostages in Gaza, for the IDF, and for God to change the hearts of Israel’s enemies.

A diverse array of pastors and rabbis, along with civic and business leaders will be participating from all over the world and numerous denominations of both Judaism and Christianity.
