Tension Between Business and Ministry
By: Rick Boxx

Recently, I attended a roundtable discussion about creating for-profit ventures specifically to help fund ministries. There was a mix of business and ministry people in attendance.

The entrepreneurs expressed frustration because their efforts to help ministries create sustainable business models are usually rebuffed. They often feel that ministry leaders perceive them as evil for desiring to create profitable enterprises.

The ministry leaders on the other hand would love to have more cash flow, but not if it distracts them from their calling to help others.

1 Corinthians 12:4 teaches, “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.”

God has gifted each person differently, but when business and ministry leaders humbly come together it can bring powerful results.
