A Peculiar People

Isaiah 46:9-10 (NIV®)

“I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. . . . I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.”

The sovereignty of God means that God can do what He wants, when He wants, the way He wants, and He needs no one’s approval. From New Testament times until today, the value of the Church of Jesus Christ in the earth is to be a peculiar people―a people who recognize the sovereignty of God and fear the Lord, a people who yield to the principles of Scripture so that the purposes of God can come forth in our lives. In our humanity we struggle with the desire to do things our way and to worship and serve God on our terms. But only when we acknowledge His sovereignty and yield to Him and His purposes will we experience the fullness of His power at work on our behalf.

Each of us wrestles with a tendency to think that our plan is better than God’s plan. If you are struggling with this, rest in the sure knowledge that He knows “the end from the beginning” (v. 10) and wants the best for you—always.

Heavenly Father, help me to shine as a light in a dark world. Teach me to trust You in everything I do, regardless of the repercussions. Thank You for Your Word and the strength it gives as it reveals what is in our hearts. Let Your Word dwell in my heart and transform my thinking, making me more like You.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
