An Extraordinary Moment
Matthew 28:5-7 (NIV®)
The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”
The Bible tells us everything we need to know for life and godliness, but it doesn’t tell us everything we’d like to know. We’re given very little information about what happened in heaven when Jesus died on the cross. What do you suppose the emotional level was in heaven when Jesus was placed in the tomb and the opening was sealed with a slice of stone like a wheel? What do you think happened when God announced that an angel was needed to roll that stone back, or when that wheel began to rock? Can you imagine the anticipation on the angel’s face as he sat in the empty tomb, just waiting for someone to come looking for Jesus? “He’s not here! He was here, but He’s gone! Just like He told you He would be!”
THINK ABOUT IT
What is your attitude when you think about the resurrection of Jesus? Does it still amaze and excite you? Do you smile when you think about it? Let’s not let the event that sealed our relationship with God ever become ordinary in our thinking.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the unique ways You have chosen to speak to Your people. Thank You for showing me the reality of Your love through the amazing work of Jesus’ resurrection. I choose to reflect on the power displayed on my behalf at the cross and through the risen Jesus Christ. I am humbled in Your presence. Help me to love and obey Your Word, every day! In Jesus’ name, amen.
